Bettina Liano

Cowboy’s Housewife
Bettina Liano Spring/Summer 2008

Bettina Liano hosts a L.A. ‘Road House Blues’ this Spring/Summer.  Cowboy meets Indian with suggestive fringing, sequins and layered ruffles.  Free spirits in ground sweeping feathered frocks join denim clad hippies in fields of over saturated blooms.  Knee length floral dresses suggest 50’s housewife.

Drawing from a cross-section of vintages and styles the collection is a floral irreverent garden party.  One part western distinctively 50’s vintage TV and the other a 60’s university student style with a hippie attitude.

Bettina turns the trend inside out by her sheer approach. Spontaneous beauty in cotton voile day dresses are given a jolt with abstract floral underslips.  Delicate camisole style tops with petal frills are mixed with hyper acid wash denims and silky twills.

Bettina’s new soft structured suiting shows shapely tailoring and distinct modern luxe.  Think louche pyjama Harem pants and lounge pocket skirts, tailored knicker shorts with scallop edge elastic.

Essential to the collection is the range of vintage prints. Combining the skills of fashion and textile artists resulted exclusive to Bettina Liano.  The pick of the bunch includes floral printed full circle skirts and an array of rich colourful silk scarfs.

Several new jean styles debut - adding to the infamous denim collection that flaunts classic 30’s to 90’s punk and everything in between.  A hippie vibe flows through as Bettina brings back the flare with the introduction of the ‘Mary Jean’.  An extra skinny leg and even higher waist line creates a 50’s pin-up style called ‘Betty Jean’.  In fitting time the TBL - est. 1989 is relaunched with its classic Western style bootleg.

At RAFW Bettina Liano’s S/S08 collection will be showcased at the premier of their ‘Cinematic Catwalk Show’ accompanied by a classic Lead Guitar Rock soundtrack.  The film represents the brand’s attitude and continuing exploration of collaborations with artists outside the fashion field.
