Juliette Hogan, Winter 2011
BITTER SWEET MEMORIES…
For winter 2012 Juliette Hogan presents us with a strong protagonist. ‘Bitter Sweet Memories…’ brings us a girl shaped by the past, looking optimistically to the future as she strides through life with a subtle strut in her walk and purposefulness in her eye. This is J Ho all grown up.
A few surprises lurk amongst the normally demure and subdued Juliette Hogan palette with the injection of some sass in the form of burnt orange and animal print. Hogan plays with textures and weights from vintage print silk georgettes, crepe de chines to tweed, chunky knits and felt cashmere - fabrics and colours work together to present an ultimately polished and considered collection.
Hemlines glide from knee to ankle with sharp tweed pencil skirts, or full and flowing dresses. Cowl sleeves and exposed zips work their way throughout the collection offering at once soft femininity and certain toughness.
A masculine slant in the tailoring further legitimizes our confident girl with man style jackets, boxy cashmere coats, leather accents and smoking pants. There’s still the floaty florals, and feminine aplenty, but this is no 70’s love fest. It’s buttoned up swagger and self-assuredness. She’s looking good and not making any apologies for it.
