Des Rusk Bows Out, Gracefully
Young New Zealand menswear designer Des Rusk today has announced that his label will shut down at the end of the 2008/09 summer season.
The decision was made early in 2008, and the summer 2008/09 collection was always planned to be his last. Movements within the fashion industry of late, mainly those fueled by fears of the recession and a slump in retail, have only convinced Des that he has made the right decision.
"This is the first time in a while where I've had the opportunity to explore new avenues, so I'm enjoying that freedom" says Des. "I feel like I'm leaving the label at a good point, I'm just after a new challenge."
"As far as the label goes, it's definitely something I'll come back to at some stage, perhaps in a different capacity though, who knows."
With post-Christmas sales now in full swing in New Zealand shops, consumers will only have a few weeks to get their hands on Des's final collection. Come February and the winter deliveries of stock, Des Rusk the label will be shelved indefinitely, safe in the annals of New Zealand Menswear history.
The Showroom 22 team wishes Des all the very best for his future.
